I missed posting yesterday, my apologies! We were on the road from 3:00 AM until 8:30 PM with a few brief stops: a traditional road-trip breakfast at Cracker Barrel and stopping to check in on my wife’s 97-year-old grandfather in Delaware. The original plan was to stay the night with grandpa and then finish the journey to NY on the next day, but we made such good time we arrived at grandpa’s house at 2:00 PM and decided to push onward. I’m glad we did—sleeping in my own bed again after such a long day on the road was amazing. The girls were incredibly well behaved, all things considered.
The current NY state travel regulations stipulate that I must get a COVID-19 test before leaving SC and after arrival in NY I must quarantine for three days and then get another COVID-19 test. If both tests are negative, I won’t need any further quarantine. The first day of quarantine passed uneventfully—we put away our stuff from the trip, including my daughter’s Christmas presents and my wife’s mobile version of her Etsy shop. Afterward I was able to read a few chapters of the textbook for my upcoming New Testament class while the toddler slept. We had a fabulous dinner (prime rib and creamed spinach) and afterward watched the new Pixar animated film ‘Soul’ which was metaphysically confused yet overwhelmingly charming. If you liked ‘Inside Out’, you’ll love ‘Soul’.
All in all, it was wonderful to visit home for a couple of weeks, but it is even better to get back to my temporary home at St. Vlad’s.
