Why subscribe?

This is where Substack wants me to cajole you into paying me to post updates. Don’t get me wrong, I’d like to get to that point eventually to help defray my seminary expenses, but right now I just care about two things:

  1. Building the habit of daily posts - I’ve often been a perfectionist when it comes to blog posts or update videos, which means introducing friction, which means I fall off my posting schedule wagon. Instead, I wanted to have a “side-blog” about life at seminary that will sometimes have brief slice-of-life ‘sessions’ and will sometimes go deeper into subjects.

  2. Building a group of readers - I’ve dabbled in lots of platforms over the years: WordPress, Blogger, SquareSpace as well as posting on Social Media. I want to have a place where I can gather people who want to read about the things I write on a single platform. Since Substack sends out posts via email and you only need to register if you want to comment, it’s pretty frictionless for people to follow my content. I get dozens of people who interact with my social media posts, but few on my personal blog. I’d love to see that people are finding value in what I’m posting and want to subscribe via email. That said:
